How to volunteer
We are always have a need for volunteers for End of Year (EOG) testing at Healthy Start Academy. Do you have an interest in making our school and community even better? Contact the Main Office to start. The telephone number: (919) 956-5599.
Do you want to help a student master reading?
If you love to read, we have opportunities for you to read to younger elementary students. We look forward to working with you to unleash the richness reading can offer upper-level students. We also encourage volunteers to tutor, and even help us select and catalog great books for our library.
We especially need 1:1 and small group reading leaders. These volunteers provide two major gifts when they donate time: They foster a love for great books, and they teach students to be inquisitive.
For more information, please contact Aronda Hill in the Main Office. The telephone number: (919) 956-5599.
Math tutors are vital to today’s highly mobile students
It doesn’t take long for a student to fall behind in mathematics. Today’s course pacing guides move quickly from unit to unit. Because we serve so many highly mobile students as well as many students who were lost in the large district-run public schools, we rely on strong differentiated instruction in our classrooms. Still, some students really struggle to get in sync with Common Core. In fact, we have students who need to advance the equivalent of more than two grade levels in a single year.
If you love math, we hope you will volunteer to take students “under-your-wing.” Often, individualized or small group tutoring is the right recipe. Other times, helping a class with an exciting project that allows them to see math in action really helps unlock an evasive concept. We also need volunteers to help us select and/or help students navigate online learning tools.
For more information on joining our Math Scholars Team, please contact Aronda Hill in the Main Office. The telephone number: (919) 956-5599.
Parent Teacher Organization needs volunteers
Please take time to sign up for our Parent Teacher Organization. We know that many hands make light work, and our PTO contributes so much to our teachers and students.
As a member, you will help us raise funds for teacher appreciation, special programs, and extracurricular activities. You also will be an integral school leader as we rely on PTO members to guide us, uncover community resources, and even recruit new families.
Sign up by visiting the next PTO meeting or calling Ms.Brown. The telephone number is: (919) 956-5599.
